The Power of Thoughts
As you may know by now, I am participating in several masterminds, and one of them is a business elevation book club for high-level women that I created.
I created this support group to help women in business enjoy more resources and be able to apply the learning in real business life. Although it said business, it really is about life in general.
Anyway…
This week we are studying Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, chapter one: Introduction: The Man Who “Thought” His Way Into Partnership With Thomas A. Edison.
An exciting chapter to set the tone of this incredible classical book.
I did a Facebook Live this morning about what I have learned from it and how I can apply the learnings directly to my life. Click here to watch it!
And for those who can’t watch the video below what I have learned so far and how you can apply it to your life.
Thoughts are things!
THE POWER OF THOUGHTS
Mindpower is one of the strongest and most useful powers you possess. This power consists of your thoughts.
The thoughts that pass through your mind are responsible for everything that happens in your life.
Your predominant thoughts influence your behavior and attitude and control your actions and reactions.
THOUGHTS SHAPE YOUR LIFE
The way you think about yourself turns into your reality. If you draw inaccurate conclusions about who you are and what you’re capable of doing, you’ll limit your potential.
What you think directly influences how you feel and how you behave. So if you think you’re a failure, you’ll feel like a failure.
Then, you’ll act like a failure, which reinforces your belief that you must be a failure.
Once you draw a conclusion about yourself, you’re likely to do two things; look for evidence that reinforces your belief and discount anything that runs contrary to your belief.
Your beliefs keep you from performing at your peak.
Keeping a Positive Perspective
Challenge your conclusions: you can choose how you think.
The Think and Choose Again Method by Gabby Bernstein
Acknowledge the negative thought
Forgive your self for having such a thought
Choose again. Choose a positive thought to replace the negative one.
Alter Your Perception and Change Your Life
Look for evidence to the contrary. Ex. If you think you are a failure, look for evidence you’re not.
Challenge your beliefs. If you’ve labeled yourself too wimpy to step outside of your comfort zone, force yourself to do something that feels a little uncomfortable.
Dealing With Obstacles
History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heart-breaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats.
— B. C. Forbes
Distance yourself from the drama
Step back and see the chaos from another perspective
Seek out necessary resources
Enlist a fresh pair of eyes to see what you may be missing
Gain perspective
Step away from the noise, seek help from others, talk to friends or loved ones who can offer a different assessment of the challenge.
Evaluate the obstacle
Use logic and sound judgment to avoid becoming emotionally enslaved to the task
Stay focused and committed
An obstacle is not intended to weaken your actions. It is an invitation to get clear on the process to advance to the next stage
Develop a growth mindset
Aspire toward continuous improvement and building on your successes
Hard Work and Labor
We were taught, "Just work hard at whatever job you get, and things will work out."
That's false.
Working hard at your job does not get you much.
When you work hard at a job where the boss doesn't value your efforts, all your hard work gets you are taken for granted.
Just working hard by itself will exhaust you and shorten your lifespan without any benefits to you.
The magic ingredient for career success and satisfaction is self-determination.
When you are the captain of the ship, you get to decide which way to sail. That's the only way to be successful in your career.
Facing Defeats and Temporary Failure
STEP 1 | Accept the Failure is Part of the Process
Understand it is not your final destination. It is a stepping-stone in your journey that is getting you to where you need to be
STEP 2 | Let your Frustration Out
PIN ME!
Once you have taken some time to walk it off and clear your head, you can then begin accepting what happened. The initial emotional rush will eventually dissipate, and you can then slowly return your focus to the issue at hand.
STEP 3 | Be Brutally Honest
It’s the most critical part of the process. It involves taking a couple of minutes to reflect on what happened and being brutally honest with ourselves on why it happened.
STEP 4 | Fail Forward
We fail forward by learning from our setbacks and making the necessary adjustments until we succeed. Every change we make, every person we meet, and every bit of information we absorb is coming together so we can create a different outcome.
OVER TO YOU NOW
I challenge you to spend 15 minutes every day in quiet contemplation. Ask the Universe for an idea that will empower you to achieve your primary burning desire.
JOURNAL ABOUT IT
Free write about your experience. Let the magic happen and avoid controlling the words that come out of your pen.
READ AGAIN
Read or read again the first chapter of Think and Grow Rich and approach it from a different perspective. Choose to see and learn from a self-growth and determination perspective.
Also, make time to reread your writing. This action has great power in our thoughts and gives us clarity.
